Hairspray

Orange County Performing Arts Center

At this point, if you can only associate the musical version of Hairspray with the horrifying site of John Travolta in drag as the main character’s mother in the 2007 film adaptation—a role originated by late drag queen Divine in the 1988 movie that inspired the whole thing—well, we understand. Still, that’s not entirely fair, it was a fun movie, and while you’re waiting for more news on the planned sequel, the national touring production is headed to OCPAC for a six-night run. Fun fact: on Broadway, the role of Link Larkin was originated by hunky Glee teacher Matthew Morrison, an Orange County High School of the Arts alum! He’s not involved in this production, but maybe he’ll be lurking in the audience somewhere.
