Cyrano de Bergerac

Claire Trevor Theater

You can’t help the way you look, whether it’s like Claudia Schiffer or Rachel Dratch, the only thing you can do is develop a rockin’ personality and hope to find someone of similar stature to cherish and adore you. Well, Cyrano de Bergerac had a nose the size of a Coney Island Polish Dog but he fell in love with a beautiful woman who was way out of his league. In the 1897 play by Edmond Rostand, the tortured protagonist does what any fugly man would: he confesses his love through an attractive-but-stupid guy by filling his ear full of sweet sonnets, and melting the heart of the woman he loves. Naturally, she falls for the imbecile. See how our quick-witted friend finally gets the girl as UCI’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts performs the French classic live on stage.
Feb. 26-27, 8 p.m.; March 3-6, 8 p.m., 2010
