Long Beach voters are used to seeing Peter Mathews on the campaign trail.  Running for office is kind of “his thing”—he’s been trying (and failing) to get elected to city and state government for about 20 years. As the progressive Democratic candidate pushes his ongoing Congressional campaign for California’s 37th District, Mathews is amping up efforts to defeat incumbent Laura Richardson in June. Luckily, he’s drummed up some solid support from local musicians who are willing to take the stage in a benefit concert for his campaign this week at Alex’s Bar. Support Long Beach’s most persistent politician while swaying to the sounds of moody, psych rock bands 60-Watt Kid and Dietra Kruschev. If nothing else, it’s nice to see a candidate finally tap into the power of his hipster constituents.
