Sans Merci isn’t completely satisfying. It feels long and linguistically ornate at times. But in terms of Adams’ continued maturation as a playwright, it’s a striking artistic triumph. She clearly is a serious and talented writer, and as long as local theaters continue to mount their prodigal daughter’s work, New York City can keep her.
