Alex’s Bar certainly has a flair for the season, and following last week's Irished-up holiday celebration with Fifth Story Tenants is the transplantation of Que Sera’s venerable funk/soul club Good Foot to the big, red room on Anaheim Street. Founding DJ Dennis Owens is one of Long Beach’s most respected selectors, so prepare yourself for the sort of Christmas-y deep cuts that Stax, Motown, James Brown and the unknown soldiers on the just-out In The Christmas Groove rarities compilation so selflessly gifted the world. Special guests will likely draw from some of the city’s finest—and anyone who wakes up unsatisfied on Boxing Day gets a chance to do it again when Owens’ longtime Good Foot partner Rodi returns to Alex’s from Japan for a special set on Dec. 31.
