2009 hasn’t been too kind to the ol’ Mozzer. His ninth solo studio album, Years of Refusal, caught critical praise but was a sales disappointment. He interrupted his own Coachella set due to the smell of “burning animal flesh” in the Indio air; in October, he collapsed on stage after just one song during a UK gig. Three weeks later, he got hit in the head with a bottle during a Liverpool show. But none of that’s stopping Morrissey from playing his former home of Southern California for the first time in two years—well, fingers crossed, he’s canceled quite a few shows this year. Recent set lists have seen the alt-rock icon mixing Refusal tracks such as “Black Cloud” and “Something is Squeezing My Skull” with the usual smattering of Smiths songs like “This Charming Man.”
