Rabbit Hole

Long Beach Playhouse

The Long Beach Playhouse gets especially somber this month with their rendition of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer-winning play Rabbit Hole. Touted as “a drama of what comes after tragedy,” the story follows a family dealing with the immense grief of the accidental death of a four-year-old. It’s definitely not the kind of thing to attend if you’re looking for a footloose and fancy-free night of theater, but Rabbit Hole bravely takes on weighty issues when others would go for cheap laughs. Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) won a Tony award for her portrayal of Becca when this play premiered on Broadway in 2006, and Nicole Kidman has signed on to star in a film adaptation due in 2010, but in the meantime, check out how Long Beach gets serious. Bring a tissue.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 29, 2 p.m. Starts: Nov. 20. Continues through Dec. 19, 2009
