Serenity

Regency South Coast Village

Though it may have eluded the Oscar race or the praise of serious film critics, this 2005 galactic action flick from Joss Whedon (creator/writer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) won several not-as-prestigious titles (such as a Saturn Award, a Hugo and a Nebula Award) along with the hearts of many a sci-fi enthusiast—at least those not already familiar with the 2002 TV series Firefly, from which this film stems. With decent special effects and the intriguing, though a tad silly, story line (hunky rebel leading pack of misfits while protecting the requisite gorgeous girl from space assassins), Serenity is a bout of science-fiction fun—as long as nothing is taken too seriously.
