Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Chicago blues icon, five-time Grammy winner and massive influence on Hendrix, Clapton and Zeppelin, 72-year-old Buddy Guy should be resting on his laurels. But the call of the road doesn’t necessarily diminish after more than 50 years of summoning the blues. Besides, the man has last year’s soulful, unity-minded album Skin Deep to tour behind for as long as he desires. There’s also Shout! Factory’s more recent The Definitive Buddy Guy, which includes his fruitful output for such classic labels as Chess, Vanguard and Silvertone. Whether issuing splashy ribbons of electric guitar or hunching over an acoustic, Guy has a career-long reputation for showmanship from which Hendrix especially took a page.
