Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

OCPAC

By Julian Williamson

Published on July 09, 2009 at 2:40am

What do you think of when you hear about a fat kid in a chocolate river? There are few films in cinematic history that leave as deep an impression as the 1971 classic, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. From Gene Wilder’s spot-on portrayal of the cynical-yet-lovable chocolate mogul to the acid-trip boat ride—the movie is timeless and it rocks the shit out of the unnecessary 2005 remake. And, good news, party people, there’s a free showing of it at the Orange County Performing Arts Center this Monday to kick off their outdoor “Movie Mondays” film series. Free and open to the public, guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs, blankets and snacks. Talk about a golden ticket. Set-up begins at 5:30 p.m., movie starts at dusk (approx. 8 p.m.)
