Pageant of the Masters

Festival of the Arts

By Amanda Parsons

Published on July 02, 2009 at 2:41am

There’s a lot to be said for London’s Royal Guards. They stand completely still for hours on end despite rain, snow and heckling from obnoxious tourists. And for the next eight weeks, you can have a chance to showcase that annoying tourist nature of yours right here at home as Laguna Beach’s annual Pageant of the Masters performs. Pageant of the Masters beckons art lovers to gather together, dress in costume and remake live versions of their favorite works of art for 90 minutes at a time. See living pictures of da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” Kahlo’s “Tree of Hope” and Monet’s “Le Dejeuner sur L’Herbe,” among others at this year’s festival. Unfortunately, no photography is permitted in the outdoor theater, limiting your ability to pose like a jackass with the artists, and your hilarious jokes may be muffled by the live orchestra.
