De La Soul

Galaxy Theater

By NATE JACKSON

Published on June 18, 2009 at 2:41am

It took a few months but we knew Long Island legends De La Soul would eventually make a run for the OC. After their original date at the Galaxy was moved to Redondo Beach back in May, some thought that Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo chose to side-step Santa Ana’s newly opened venue. On the plus side, their postponed appearance gave fans more time to absorb their latest recorded effort, 2009’s Are You In?, another iTunes-exclusive installment to the innovative Nike + Original Run series intended for joggers—it’s also their first album in five years. Featuring 10 songs welded into a continuous 45-minute mix, De La’s East Coast eclecticism and jazz-rap roots stay intact along with soaring, pulse-pounding beats designed for a sweat-drenched meeting with the sun on your jogging trail of choice. So now you’ve got the cardio skills to sprint to the box office and grab tickets before this show gets sold out. And trust us, the only thing worse than missing De La Soul once is missing them twice.
