The Four Tops, the Temptations

Cerritos Center

By VICKIE CHANG

Published on May 23, 2009 at 2:53am

It isn't often that two of Motown's biggest acts roll through town—and on one stage. Together. The legendary Temptations and Four Tops are returning to the stage of the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. With their distinctive hits that more than likely defined your childhood no matter what generation you belong to, both groups helped to shape and refine that distinctive Motown sound of R&B, soul, doo-wop and pop. The Four Tops alone had 46 tracks that reached the top 30 of the singles charts with songs like "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" and "Baby I Need Your Loving." As for the Temptations? Is it even necessary to mention staples like "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" and "Papa Was a Rollin'stone"? It'll be a night of hit after hit after hit—and don't worry, both groups are still keeping that matching shiny outfit thing going strong. Somebody, after all, has to remember the sparkly magenta three piece suit.
