Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of Decoder Ring, the Australian band who introduced the world to singer/songwriter and onetime actress Lenka Kripac. Going by her first name on her self-titled solo debut, Lenka issues clever little trinkets of songs buoyed by studio trickery and lush orchestration. Whether she’s collaborating with Howie Day or Beck’s dad, David Campbell, she maintains a loose, bright-eyed chirp that can’t help but spark Feist comparisons. The single “The Show” wound up in an Old Navy commercial, and Lenka landed a spot in a Bloomingdale’s ad campaign last fall. It certainly doesn’t hurt that she’s a lovely young woman, but it’s the quirky strength of her music that will turn the most heads in the end.
