Downtown Santa Ana’s Artists Village is saturated with galleries of all kinds—photography, sculpture, illustration. And Memphis Soul Café is no exception. Stop into the back showroom to experience pieces by local photographer John Gilhooley. Having shot covers for the District Weekly, Seattle Weekly, L.A. City Beat (sadly, now defunct) and yours truly—he just shot his 50th for us (see issue 31)—Gilhooley has proven he has the professional chops to dazzle the eye and inspire even the lowliest of mortals to go out, buy a camera and shoot some images, even though they won’t even be close in quality. Be sure to check out the image of race-car legend Danny Thompson of Thompson Motersports. It’s brilliant!
