Guys and Dolls

The Little Theatre

By Amanda Parsons

Published on April 10, 2009 at 2:41am

Compulsive gambling can be a real downer. It has the power to destroy lives and rip families apart and has led countless men to the poorhouse—but not in the Tony Award-winning musical Guys and Dolls! In this happy fantasy depicting the upside of a bettin’ man’s life, Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson wager their way into, out of and right back into trouble. While their dolls, Miss Adelaide and Sarah Brown, do all they can, from rigorous prayer to faking colds, to try to get their guys to go straight. You don’t have to bet the farm that Cal State Fullerton’s rendition of the 1950 Broadway smash will be more fun than watching a celebrity poker tournament. Doing that might mean you have a problem.
