Vicente Fox

Irvine Barclay Theatre

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox came into office the same year as George W. Bush, and from most accounts, the two became bosom buddies—even wearing the same black cowboy boots when they met up at Fox’s ranch in Guanajuato, prompting the Wall Street Journal to call it “Boot Summit.” Fox was a relatively popular president—and apparently made lots of money doing it, although investigations into his “illicit enrichment programs” are still ongoing. He didn’t start a war, and he left office with a 70 percent approval rating. Then he built Mexico’s first presidential library and had a statue of himself erected—twice (protestors pulled the first one down). Some UC Irvine students are protesting his appearance at the university Wednesday, so wear your rotten-veggie-proof parka, just in case.
