Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwrtten

Long Beach Art Theatre

By Mark Miller

Published on March 19, 2009 at 2:41am

Come on down to the Art Theater for a cavalcade of punk rock as local punk band Fifth Story Tenants will be tossing aside their usual playlist for a Clash cover set to kick start the Art Theater’s Mondo Midnight screening of Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. Strummer, lead singer of the legendary band, is the subject of this highly introspective documentary which reveals the man as not only an iconic artist but also a passionate political activist. Released four years after his untimely and unfortunate death from a heart attack in 2002, the film contains rare filmed conversations with Strummer himself, live concert footage and interviews with the divergent multitude of celebrities and public figures whose lives have been forever altered by the pioneering musician.
