DJ Oldboy

Avalon Bar

By NATE JACKSON

Published on March 20, 2009 at 2:41am

Armed with twin decks, adventurous vinyl and other auxiliary sonic weaponry (a harmonica and tambourine, mostly), DJ Oldboy is always prepared to party. Almost any night of the week, you can catch this wiry song selector jiving spastically to everything from Little Richard to Brain Eno. A popular fixture in the shadowy hipster bar scene, Oldboy (a.k.a. Chris Lynch) has also thrown his own wild, rock & roll shindigs. But few venues offer the sweaty basement-party vibe conducive to his eclectic madness like Costa Mesa’s Avalon Bar. This week, as part of his Thursday-night residency there, he’ll be accompanied by folk-rockers the Short Term Melody, who’ll surely join him in swinging from the rafters between classic tunes and gluttonous swigs of PBR.
