Anthony Wilson

Steamers

By SEAN O'CONNELL

Published on March 05, 2009 at 2:41am

The current jazz scene is filled with the sons of legends. Ravi Coltrane, Joshua Redman and T.S. Monk have all earned themselves a respected place in the evolution of the genre. Guitarist Anthony Wilson, son of composer/arranger/walking history book Gerald Wilson, has claimed a spot beyond the shadow of his father as well. The fleet-fingered Wilson heir has popped up behind the likes of Diana Krall and Queen Latifah but most importantly he is an adept small-band man capable of dense arrangements and a superb solo touch. A prized local player with excellent support, Wilson is sure to bring the heat.
