In 1969, the world was introduced to Monty Python’s Flying Circus—and it was never the same again. The British television series was an instant success and the six members which comprised the sketch comedy powerhouse took the next logical step; they made movies. Their first effort, ...And Now for Something Completely Different, was merely a replay of the show’s most popular skits, but that venture secured the gang’s chance to make the destined-to-be-loved-the-world-over Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Maybe it’s the wealth of quotable lines (“It’s just a flesh wound!”) or the perfect blend of high and lowbrow entertainment, but whatever the reason, the film’s fan-base simply continues to grow. Though the troupe did go on to make two more highly successful films, nothing seems to tickle funnybones more than Grail.
