Our current economic situation may be awful, but it ain’t nothing compared to what depression times were like after the stock market crash of 1929 and before the effects of Roosevelt’s New Deal. There was an abundance of soup lines, hungry children in tenement houses, cool hats with tattered suits... In the age of utter despair and hopelessness, there was one medium that helped take the sting out of being down and out: Hollywood movies. How could you feel depressed watching Fred Astaire twirl Ginger Rogers across the screen? The elegant, glittering sets, the dazzling outfits and scores of sexy chorus girls singing “We’re In The Money” sure prove how movies have changed since then. Wouldn’t it be great to get that same joyful feeling in this day and age? Well, here’s your chance to shake those recession blues away (at least for a few hours) and re-live that age of entertainment with movie tunes from the days of yore.
