'Til DeathSid and NancyBy RYAN RITCHIEPublished on February 12, 2009 at 2:42amTheres this one particular scene in director Alex Coxs 1986 flick Sid and Nancy that sums up a frustrated persons outlook on love. Its when Johnny Rotten (the character, not the real guy) cant fall asleep because hears a couple doing the nasty, which prompts him to say sex is hippie love shit. For those who arent getting laid regularly, its a fairly accurate depiction. Those who are realize this statement is nothing more than the resentment that comes from not getting any. Regardless of that quote, Sid and Nancy is a love story, albeit a far cry from the peace and love days of the 60s. Set in the heroin-fueled world of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his junkie girlfriend Nancy Spungen, the couple endure a volatile relationship that spirals downward, ultimately leading to Spungens death and Vicious suicide. It would be poetically beautiful if it wasnt true.
