Haute Dog

Bulldog Beauty Conest

By ERIN DEWITT

Published on February 12, 2009 at 2:42am

Beauty may claim to be in the eye of the beholder, but we’d like to see one person who doesn’t go ga-ga for the smushy face of a bulldog. Every Valentine’s weekend, the annual Haute Dog Bulldog Beauty Contest celebrates these jowly quadrupeds in all their glory, as well as competitions for pugs and senior dogs (all breeds and mixes). Founded by pageant coach Justin Rudd, the event attracts more than 1,000 spectators/dog-lovers to coo over the contestants as they strut down a red carpet. Doggies will be judged on personality, charm, face, figure, and first impression while awards will be given out to oldest contestant, congeniality, furthest distance traveled, best smile, and (of course) best legs.
