Sharing HistoryAfrican Cultural FestivalBy NATE JACKSONPublished on January 29, 2009 at 2:42amRoots are important. And every once in a while (or more if youre lucky), people get to celebrate and share their history with others. Kicking off the final stretch of the Bowers Museums great love affair with the cradle of humanity, the African Culture Festival is designed to do just that. This weekend, share in the excitement of this all-day event honoring the boundless creative expression of African and African-American artists, musicians and dancers. The museum grounds are ripe for family fun, face-painting and (gasp) Zulu doll making! This is a rare opportunity to catch a true glimpse at the complex bridge that binds African and African-American culture. Besides, how often does a day of exploration at the museum come with the passionate pounding of djembe drums and soul food?
