Scotty Coats

Scotty Coats, one of the founders of Detroit Bar’s Abstract Workshop, has had a good year. He’s the reigning OC Weekly Best Club DJ, works for Ubiquity Records (our pick for Best Record Label) and saw his Double Fisted collaboration with fellow producer/remixer Wes the Mes get a reissue on Rong Music/DFA. With that type of streak, why ring in 2009—excitedly, pathetically, or otherwise—with anyone else? He’ll be at the Pike bar in Long Beach, along with fellow spinsters Ryan Craig, Dirty Lo and the rather amusingly monikered Poppa De La Disco. Maybe some of his success will rub off on you, and you’ll make it a New Year’s resolution to release your own collection of phat beats.
