Unplugged

AJ Degrasse

By NATE JACKSON

Published on December 24, 2008 at 2:46am

Step into the the Gypsy Lounge almost any night of the week, and chances are you’ll catch the piano ballads of AJ DeGrasse. As one of OC’s busiest singer/songwriters, DeGrasse’s constant creative binging and natural musicianship have made him a favorite in this laid-back watering hole. With all the gruff charm and piano chops of a scraggly Randy Newman, it’s not exactly a surprise he’s garnered some major local praise. In 2007, DeGrasse took home accolades for Best Male and Best Live Male Performer at the Orange County Music Awards. This week, he returns to his sonic stomping grounds with fellow crooners Cory Joseph and Heather Green for the Lounge’s weekly acoustic showcase. They may not be plugged in, but Tuesday-night performances at the Gypsy Lounge always manage to be electric.
