Ladies of Rock

The Donnas

By ALBERT CHING

When did you first hear The Donnas? Was it in their early, punkier days of albums like Get Skintight! or The Donnas Turn 21? Maybe it was in 2002, with breakthrough album Spend the Night that got the Palo Alto all-female rockers all kinds of mainstream attention. Maybe it was earlier this year, when “New Kid In School” (from their latest, 2007’s Bitchin’) appeared on Rock Band 2. Or maybe you’ll be hearing them for the first time Saturday at the House of Blues, where they’ll be opening up for immortal glam metal troupe Ratt. Their songs are similarly sleazy sounding; it’s a small leap from “Take It Off” to “Lovin’ You’s A Dirty Job.”
