While almost everyone is familiar with the aesthetics of goth culture, far fewer can name the notable bands associated with it. Beyond Bauhaus, the music has remained more or less appropriately sub-, at least in America. The Sisters of Mercy, founded by lead singer Andrew Eldritch, enjoyed some success here, releasing at least one bona-fide classic goth rock album, 1987’s Floodland, featuring single “This Corrosion,” still a reliable club standby. Though Eldritch hasn’t released any new recorded material since 1993, the Sisters of Mercy continue to tour and perform the sort of driving, epic, dark soundscapes that makes dressing in a black trenchcoat still seem really cool.
