To Heir is Human

The Heiress

By TOM CHILD

Published on October 16, 2008 at 2:44am

In the mood for a light-hearted play about wacky upper-class debutantes and their carefree, devilishly irresponsible romps? Then don’t see The Heiress. Based on Henry James’ novel Washington Square, The Heiress is the psychologically troubling story of a young woman living under the oppressive rule of her emotionally cold and disapproving father. Will things go well when she finally meets the man who might give her the emotional fulfillment she desires? Well, we don’t want to spoil it for you, but let’s just say you might have to pick up some comfort food on the way home. Brutally honest about the ways in which we wound others and ourselves, The Heiress stands as a classic of modern theater.
