Atheist Alliance Convention

By TOM CHILD

Published on September 25, 2008 at 2:45am

There may not be any atheists in foxholes, but there will be a hell of a lot of them on the Queen Mary this weekend as the Atheist Alliance International hold their annual convention on the historic ship. This year, they’ve titled the convention “Unsinkable Atheism,” which pretty much dares the Almighty to prove them wrong and whip up a rogue wave in Long Beach Harbor to capsize the cruiser. Atheist-friendly organizations will exhibit their wares, and a number of leading figures in the atheist movement will speak, including Mick Rabin of Scouting for All and Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptic magazine. Also appearing will be Julia Sweeney (ex- SNL, current monologist/comedian) and singer/songwriter Jill Sobule. Definitely not appearing: Jesus, Yahweh, Ganesh or Buddha.
