Pounded Pavement

Pedestrian Perspectives

Santa Ana-based photographer Andy Verostek knows how to get attention. He mailed the Weekly a Nike shoebox, which contained a press release and other info on his show this weekend at the Nomadic Image Gallery. No free kicks, though (bribery doesn’t work on us all the time), but his exhibit looks pretty intriguing. Over a nine-month period, Verostek hoofed it through assorted LA neighborhoods, from Monterey Park to Santa Monica, snapping pics throughout his 32-mile trek. Forty-five rolls of 35mm black-and-white film later, he had completed the first in a series of 50 planned photo expeditions across some of what he calls “the world’s most important cultural urban centers.” No. 2 on his list? Orange County. So, yeah, with 48 after that, he’ll pretty much be doing this the rest of his life.

For those looking to see more, I know that Andy has expanded into a much larger gallery in the basement of the Santora Building in the Artist's Village in Santa Ana. Working with a quite large group of photographers, he really has assembled a fine cluster of talent. As one mentions above, the presentation of the gallery is very unorthodox yet this is what really seals the deal for me. It's always a fun gallery to visit. Don't miss it!

SO glad to have seen Mr Verostek's show at the gallery open house. He has an amazing eye and a very creative presentation, I would highly recommend checking out his gallery and his images - I couldn't resist buying one for myself!

My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed the show and quality of the art work. Good luck with you show and your future. Warm regards, Andy

Mr. Verostek's stunning and captivating photography was by far the highlight of my first experience with the Santa Ana Art Walk. I am by no means an art conoeisseur but I am keenly aware when I witness something of true class and this gallery was thoroughly engrossing from start to finish. I encourage anyone at all with an eye for photography or just an interest in an artist's extremely unique perspective to check this out. I just heard he extended it through this Thursday so check out "Pedestrian Perspectives" for an incredible experience!

Great show! The set-up of the gallery itself is unorthodox, but very appropriate for the subject!
