Connecting With Earth: The Spiritual Link

By TOM CHILD

Published on August 28, 2008 at 2:41am

You don’t need to consider yourself particularly religious to feel a sense of awe when confronted with the seemingly infinite expanse and power of the ocean. The sea exerts its mysterious pull on atheist and faithful alike. Conservationist Dr. Carl Safina has written extensively on the ocean, from the environmental issues that threaten it to the relationships humans have with the abyss and its inhabitants. After guests spend an hour exploring the Aquarium of the Pacific, Safina will discuss “the challenges and the moral and spiritual imperatives for forging a different, more successful relationship with the living world.” Our relationship with the living world has been a little rocky as of late. Might be a good time to try to rekindle the spark.
