Pressing Matters: 500 Years of Wine in Art

By ERIN DEWITT

Published on July 31, 2008 at 2:41am

Casa Romantica is celebrating five centuries of wine depiction in art by exhibiting over fifty prints that feature this wonderful libation. The collection of wine-centered art is from the Sterling Vineyards Portfolio of Wine Art and History in Calistoga, California, in the heart of wine country. The artwork dates from as early as the fifteenth century but also includes more contemporary works from masters like Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. Additionally, the exhibit focuses on the art of printmaking; the prints displayed were created with a variety of techniques including steel engraving, woodcut, etching and lithography. Just keep your full glasses away from the art. You stain it, you bought it.
