What's Up, Chuck?

Chuck Jones

By SEAN O'CONNELL

Published on July 24, 2008 at 2:40am

As one of the most influential animators to put pen to paper, Chuck Jones created too many five minute masterpieces to count. His cartoons have shaped the minds of millions of children providing many of them with their only knowledge of war bonds and Edward G. Robinson. Along with Tex Avery, Jones brought cartoons out of the cute, injecting some much needed mean-spiritedness and sarcasm to an otherwise innocuous medium. For the next few months, the Orange Public Library will be presenting hand-drawn cels and sketches from the Jones archives. Bring the kids so they can learn that in the good old days cartoon characters didn't have to wear pants. Not like that shifty Spongebob.
Mondays-Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Thursdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: July 21. Continues through Aug. 5, 2008
