Gunner is a good man he's nice funny loveing and careing I mean yeah I know what he did was rong but gunner feels like he deserves to be in death row but honestly I don't think he deserves to be on death row because he is a good man and a great friend... I have never meet gunner but my mom did and they was best friends and gunners mom dated my uncle eddie.....so gunner is a really close friend to my family and he's a really good man once you get to know him like my family does and he's the best drawer that I know and I love gunner like a brother

What do you think all these post are a bunch of hating going on is all I see from all of you ... Yes what he did was more then a mistake but an eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind .. I have not seen or spoke to gunner in years but he is not a monster and never was I'm not making excuses for his actions but this type of crime is not normal so did you ever think he has a story beside the one in the paper .. no he is not an animal either .. everyone has the right to thier opinion but your opinion dosent make the facts wrong and the fact is this he is a man who at a young age lost his way through many trials and tribulations life handed him not by his choice and he dealt with them the best he could until one day they effected his good judgement and he is paying the ultiment price he has to live each day with what he has done .... Keep your head Gunner and keep faith ..

Sorry SL / Megan, these two guys are a scum-bag. They are wasting everyone's tax money everyday they breathe and eat. This isn't a minor mess-up, this is a big mess-up. There is no doubt or question they should die for their crimes. Reading his depiction on how he stabbed and slit Ly's throat while he was grasping and choking on his own blood while feeling no remorse illustrates he is an animal. Who thinks we should bring back public hanging?

I don't know who people can say this asshole is a good person. I don't care if you talk to the asshole on a regular basis. I judge people by their action not their words. People can lie and cry at whim to shore up their image, but their actions is their character. I hope this guy rot in hell.

Just for the record NYC - I was born and raised in the US, I'm not a "damn Swede" as you referenced. You have a right to your opinion, but you know nothing more than the media tells about Gunner, which holds little truth.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. However, I myself believe that it DOES MATTER when someone changes for the better, as Gunner has.
No one is listening to Gunner�s side of the story, his battles, and no one has tried to understand. There is a lot of emotion involved in this case and my heart goes out to everyone involved.
I think compassion could go a long way and wishing someone to die does not do any good - it just continues the hate that, thank God, is not part of Gunner anymore.

There is no real winner in this battle for justice.
The victim died the minute those two guys killed him. Now those two guys are serving time, whether or not they will be executed, or whether or not they used to be good kids and how they have changed being incarcelated. It doesn't matter.
Sympathy goes to both families (the victim and the killer's) because the families and loved ones will be burdened with the guilt and all the emotion that comes with a senseless crime.
What can this nation do to prevent this senseless crime again? The reason this nation has overcrowding in prison is telling us there is something wrong about this country and something is not working well. how can we fix it. in ideal world we woudln't have this problem but in this real life we must find preventative solution to this problem.
the community should have done something to stop the evil after finding just a small dosage of it.
everybody loses because this murder case just lost one smart man who devoted his life in academia and leadership and could have been a positive impact in so many more lives and in society at large and to have some "home made" terrorist snatch this bright man who was gonna help this nation going forward is worse than war on terror because the authorities and the media are not spending much time on it and leaving a blind eye.
i don't believe these two man have what it takes to redeem themselves and Megan (the relative of the killer) is only biased. of course nobody knew the killers personally and up close and personal like you have honey. you live in a world of denial. everything leading up to the murder showed that nobody stepped up to the plate and helped them and that those two murderers are not positive contributors of society. They should send those non contributors to labor camps like they do in north korea. at least then they will make real contributions. and each finger chopped off everytime they committed a crime as a youth so they will learn a lesson.
real redemption and service to community is for them to be executed asap so that it saves natural resources(air,food,space) and tax payer's money. they can do real redeeming in their next life because this lifetime is not worth the fight. you failed. no hard feelings nothing personal. just die

Congratulations on being featured in the Best American Crime Reporting for 2009. This was the first article I read, given that I am very interested in death penalty cases. I thought it was excellent writing, which is the same thing as saying excellent story telling.
Lindberg is a frightening character. I'm curious; does anyone know if he had brain injuries or other neurological trauma? His behavior was so aberrant that it would not be suprising if confirmed. (I was about to say that the behavior was atypical for his AGE; then again, no age group "typically" exhibits such wanton violence). While some may argue that neurological damage contributing to criminal acts absolves culpability, I do not, despite my belief in neuropsychology. It appears that Lindberg was subject to a variety of influences, but ultimately, he freely made the choice to brutally snuff out an innocent life.
Again, I really enjoyed the article and thought it definitely deserved being featured among the best.

Finally someone knows the real Gunner, the nice, sweet Gunner. Thank you for not judgeing him and taking the time to get to know him. You have no idea how much it means to me to finally have someone that is not family on my side. I wish I could explain in words how greatful I am but I can't. Hi Megan - I just came across the comments regarding Gunner. I have been writing him for over a year now and there are a few things that I wish to say. Gunner is a changed man. He does feel remorse for what happened. He is not full of evil. In fact, he has treated me with great kindness and friendship. I wish people would not judge him solely on past actions and without knowing him. He has good in him. People just have not taken the time to see it. I want everyone to know that he has become a better man.

Yo, Megan. Gunner fired a shotgun at a crowd of high school students, ambushed a prison guard, shot a little boy in the throat, stomped another kid to steal his skateboard, beat the hell out of an old woman during a home invasion robbery, attacked a Mexican field worker for cash, joined white supremacist groups, mocked the murder of Martin Luther King and stabbed a unarmed Vietnamese American 22 times on a school tennis court. Nice resume for a freak punk who was only 21. He will rot in hell.

Whatever i know Gunner is not a bully or a monster or anything else yall have been saying. He is my family and i love him reguardless of what he did. I know he is changed and that he learned his lesson. There is no excuse for what he did and yes he does deserve to sit in jail and have to relive that night over and over again and im sure it is eating him alive, but for all yall talking s***, yall should really just drop it now becuause ya know whats done is done and nothing you can say is going to make a difference now. Gunner i love you and i will hopefully see you soon, I know you are not a bad person and lets (family) stick together and you WILL get through this!

This is not a hate crime! Do yall think that maybe there was someting going on in is life? If yall would read the letter he wrote it would explain the murder perfectly, and in that letter he never said that he did this because he was asain. There is no excuse for what he did but in no way was this a hate crime, Gunner is my cousin and we have some asain people in our family, so why would he kill a man of a certain race when that race is in our blood?? He wouldn't. My point is that Ly's murder was not because of his race, but for a reason i don't know.

It would appear that this guy is demon possessed. there is simply no other explanation for his behavior. He is obsviously a big fan of the occult and satan, which although he probably thinks that is good, he will be getting really aquainted with both in hell.
