Be the World’s Funniest Comic Contest

By Eleanor Carmichael

Published on June 12, 2008 at 2:40am

He made America laugh every week on Saturday Night Live and with his roles in films Anchorman , Elf and Stranger Than Fiction , but Will Ferrell will not be found at the Be the World's Funniest Comic Contest at the Irvine Improv this month-but that's only because they're looking for the next Ferrell, Cho, Rock or even Carlin. Every Tuesday in June, 10 self-proclaimed comics from all throughout Southern California will have their shot at convincing us that they, too, are "kind of a big deal." This is the moment for amateurs to rise up out of anonymity and enjoy their 15 (actually, it's probably closer to five) minutes of fame. Celebrity judge comedian Gene Pompa and a slew of celebrity guests will host the competition, as Tuesday nights in June become the funniest nights in Orange County.
Tuesdays, 8 p.m. Starts: June 10. Continues through July 2, 2008
