To the five of you who helped to save a terrified little dog from getting run over on the 55 yesterday, thank you for reminding me that really good people walk among us everyday. The guy in the battered Ford pickup who blocked traffic for the dog and the two young women and their guy friend who stopped and, along with me and the pickup guy, chased the little dog through ankle-deep ice plants along the freeway and into a drainage pipe. You ran a solid half-mile in nice work clothes, with little regard for yourselves. Finally, to the Costa Mesa Animal Control officer who responded to my call in just a few minutes, and then crawled deep into that dark, filthy, smelly, tiny drainage pipe under Baker Street to rescue the little dog. Your selflessness and genuine concern for a little dog you had never seen before and would never see again warmed my heart and made my month. Thank you.
