What do a frustrated writer and a gumshoe have in common? Theater buffs can find out when the Broadway production City of Angels makes its local stamp on the Cal State Fullerton campus. This six-time Tony Award-winning production is a musical comedy with classic wit and an old-school detective story all rolled into one. Set in Los Angeles in the late '40s, Stine is desperately trying to adapt a book he's written into a silver-screen hit for tyrant producer Buddy Fiddler. The line between fantasy and reality blurs when Stine's creation, the detective Stone, begins to interact with the author and fight for control in the song "You're Nothing Without Me." When you're doing battle in a musical, there's no need for bloodshed-a knock-down, drag-out vocal duet will do just fine.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: March 28. Continues through April 21, 2008
