The Phantom of the Opera

Though it was made into a respectable film in 2004, The Phantom of the Opera is best enjoyed onstage. The musical itself is based on the French novel of the same title by Gaston Leroux, but most people recognize Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage adaptation above anything else-yes, even the classic Lon Chaney flick. The story follows Erik, a disfigured, tormented soul-of course-who, under the guise of the phantom, haunts an opera house and threatens its patrons unless they follow his commands. The plot may sound a lot like the start of a Scooby-Doo episode, but it's far from that: Erik falls in love with a beautiful singer, Christine, and teaches her to play piano. A love triangle is soon created as Christina falls in love with another man-hell hath no fury like a phantom scorned, you know.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 p.m.; Sundays, 2 & 6:30 p.m. Starts: March 26. Continues through April 20, 2008
