Get Stoney

Stone Soup

By SHAWN SMITH

Published on March 12, 2008 at 2:40am

With baton in hand, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra music director Michael Hall will remind a gargantuan room of kids and parents about the importance of teamwork during Stone Soup . Instead of the famous story's three hungry soldiers looking for sustenance, it will be Hall looking for an orchestra. But the musicians he will ask will be a little less than generous. So Hall will perform solo, or at least that's what he wants his reluctant orchestra to think. In the process, some young'uns might learn a thing or two about strings, staccato, soup and togetherness. After all, no man is an island. Chew on that, then reinforce the message with the kids. If the show gets them to pitch in and clean the garage, you'll hear a symphony, too.
