Be Your Own Pet

By Stephanie Caballero

Published on January 10, 2008

Two words: No Rules. This type of mentality has informed Be your Own Pet's mission to record unconventional punk songs, as sonically opposed to the mainstream as they can get. In contrast to the current trend of Ramones worshipping garage band purists, Be Your Own Pet employs a more rebellious style, preaching fun. Lead singer Jemina Pearl lends her trademark bad ass style to the lyrics on the new album, Get Awkward , and with the boys at her side, the band delivers cohesive songs that (to paraphrase Shakespeare) contain outbursts of anything and make sense of nothing.
