Peanut Butter Wolf

By DAVE SEGAL

Published on January 10, 2008

Head of the thriving, LA-based Stones Throw label, Peanut Butter Wolf (Chris Manak) also maintains a busy deejaying schedule. PBW is a master of many styles who induces, studies have found, many smiles. So when he's not curating Stones Throw-centric soundtracks with the Adult Swim Network and fostering the outstanding careers of Madlib, Oh No, Guilty Simpson and others, Manak's rocking parties with his deep crates of wax. (PBW's 1999 album, My Vinyl Weighs a Ton , was no idle boast.) The Abstract Workshop is an OC hip-hop institution, so PBW will likely bust out his bounty of underground-rap gems. But don't be surprised if he unleashes plenty of cuts from hip-hop's foundation, too.
