Norm MacDonald

By LUKE Y. THOMPSON

Published on January 10, 2008

There was a time when the only reason to watch Saturday Night Live was for Norm MacDonald's hosting of "Weekend Update"-his deadpan delivery made every line work even when the only punchline was a bizarre non-sequitur like "Frank Stallone!" or "Germans love David Hasselhoff." If you were lucky, you'd also get to see him in a sketch or two, whether as Bob Dole biting the head off a live chicken, or his pitch-perfect imitation of David Letterman ("Uhhhhh...Ya got any gum?"). Fired for making too many jokes about OJ Simpson killing people, he's gone on to be the scene-stealing highlight of every Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider movie that comes out, though his own film career stalled after the disappointing Screwed . Live, expect more than a few punchlines about wiener dogs.
