Rebels With a Cause

By TOM CHILD

Published on January 10, 2008

Every once in a while, an event comes along that promises to be so surreal it must be written about. So it is with Rebels With a Cause: Youth Culture and Music in the '50s , in which the B-Sides-according to the press release, "a Washington, D.C.-based group of Smithsonian history scholars by day, rock & roll musicians by night"-present an evening of musical performances that aim to outline the history of social unrest among the postwar American youth. You know when you combine education and rock music-especially when said rock music is performed by moonlighting eggheads-you're in for a wild night.
