Sea of Hearts

By VICKIE CHANG

Published on January 10, 2008

For the second year in a row, Shanti Orange County is hosting its Sea of Hearts HIV/AIDS fund-raiser in Laguna Beach. Founded in 1987, Shanti Orange County is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide life-enhancing services to individuals living with HIV and AIDS. The Sea of Hearts is supposed to be representative of the "sea" of people affected by HIV and AIDS in Orange County-and they're not being dramatic: In Orange County alone, one person is diagnosed with AIDS every day, while countless others are infected with the HIV virus. Head down to Laguna Beach this Saturday and dedicate and plant a heart in the sand. If you can't make it, call ahead or visit shantioc.org to donate, and Shanti will plant a heart for you.
