Professional Bull Riders

By Amanda Parsons

Published on January 10, 2008

There are few activities around these days that test a man's will against the strength of a beast, still fewer in which clowns have the opportunity to save lives. Miraculously, the sport of bull riding offers all this and more. Much more. And thanks to the Professional Bull Riders (PBR), ridin' buckin' bulls ain't just for shit-kickers no more. PBR, founded in 1992 by 20 riders who joined forces to take bull riding into the mainstream, has brought this macho sport into cities across North America, allowing us the privilege of watching the bone-crushing action as the top 45 riders in the world take their bulls to stardom. Sure, some nay-saying animal-rights activists out there argue that bull riding is cruel because of those scary cattle prods, but PBR has done away with those pesky electronic rods to ensure that the only thing shocking at their shows will be how tight these cowboys wear their Wranglers.
