Shen Wei Dance Arts

By TOM CHILD

Published on January 10, 2008

To be honest, we don't know much about dance. While it is often said you should dance like no one else is watching, we tend to dance like we're not watching-which makes sense because we aren't. If you see us dancing, it means we're already too drunk to see straight. But thank God there are people in this world who have devoted their lives to the power of artistic expression through movement. Choreographer Shen Wei blends Eastern and Western influences to create his distinctive and critically acclaimed style. He is a 2007 MacArthur Foundation "Genius Award" recipient, which means he's a bit of an innovator. Sure, Shen Wei Dance Arts has won accolade after accolade, but we'd like to see them try to skillfully slur their way out of a bar fight like we can.
