Bring an Axe

Into the Woods

By JANINE KAHN

Published on January 10, 2008

Ever wondered what would happen to the Brothers Grimm fairy tales if they were fused together by an upbeat musical score? Stephen Sondheim did, and he didn't stop there. In his Tony-winning musical Into the Woods, Sondheim pushes the fairy tales beyond the conventions of Happily Ever After and into biting, question-heavy reality: What does one do when there's a dead giant in the back yard? Was marrying the prince really worth it? Should the rapping witch give up her powers for a hot bod? Find out at the Rose Center Theater this weekend. Trust us, it's way better than Shrek III.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 25. Continues through Feb. 2, 2008
