Amber Waves

Shenandoah

Established in 1968, Pacific Chorale are considered one of America's most distinguished choirs. And this Tuesday and Wednesday night, they're bringing to the Orange County Performing Arts Center the John Alexander Singers and their celebration of America and its music. "Shenandoah" is a word of Native American origin and means something like "daughter of the stars." Many Americans have picked up on the word and named several places throughout the country after it-Shenandoah rivers, Shenandoah Valley, Shenandoah National Park. (It's also the name of a rather indefinable country music group . . . but let's not speak of that.) The program promises to bring us the best of American folk-music traditions, all the while honoring the American landscape itself.
Tue., Feb. 19, 8 p.m.; Wed., Feb. 20, 8 p.m., 2008
